The Dockum Drugstore Sit-in

The Smoky Hill Museum is having a special Zoom presentation on November 5 at 5:30 p.m. which you can enjoy from the comfort of your own home. Prisca Barnes will discuss the July 1958 Wichita Dockum Drugstore sit-in, a peaceful protest against the city’s practice of segregation. Learn what happened, how it ended and how these protests helped transform the struggle for racial equality. Barnes is the founder of Storytime Village, a nonprofit promoting reading among low-income children.

This presentation is online only. The Museum and store will be closed. Send your email to museum@salina.org to reserve your place.

The Smoky Hill Museum is a nationally accredited history museum, in the heart of downtown Salina, Kansas. This FREE museum is open Tuesday-Friday 11-4 and Saturday 10-4. Also, be sure to stop by the Museum Store for a wide variety of regional and Kansas products, local artwork and gifts for all ages.
